Being Brave in the name of Solo!

Singing, for me, has always come hand in hand with my love for drama. Unfortunately, I have always been much more confident in my performances that focus solely on theatrics. Recently I have been trying to push myself in order to better my presence on stage when singing.

Although there will only be a small amount of singing in my performance, I feel as though the tone of the song being sang will ultimately affect the piece as a whole, and hopefully create a more three dimensional piece.

So, being BRAVE in the name of Solo, here is a video clip of me singing and playing the guitar.

Outdoor Performance

Sorry for the lack of blogging, but I am pleased to say things have progressed!

When discussing my work with my tutor, we have decided that the tone for my performance, would perfectly match an outdoor performance.

When thinking about the medusa’s main feature, of turning humans to stone with just one look, I thought it would be playful to play with making the audience feel some kind of entrapment.

Original ideas included mirrors, in order for the audience to watch the performance without making direct eye contact with the medusa. However, not only did placement for the mirror become problematic, I felt as though putting distance between myself and the audience would be counter-productive.

I began to explore some of the areas around university, but kept coming back to a small alley, located behind the back of the LPAC, originally suggested to me by Donald. Here are some pictures:

I love the idea of leading an audience down a secluded area at night in order to heighten the experience and feeling of unease.

And also, I suppose, I’m a little dramatic.

Which is why I have also decided to use a firepit in my performance.

I just LOVE the use of pyrotechnics in theatre. There’s something calming about a flame and meditative. As I have also been thinking green recently, I have decided to investigate into the possibility of adding an element (safely) to the fire to produce a green flame.
