Todays session was thought provoking to say the least. We discussed a class member’s poetry in depth.
As I have recently been studying the patterns within poetry within the anothology of Thomas Hardy’s work for my English dissertation, I have been thinking about the way in which a solo performance can be structured through the use of rhythmic pattern.
American horror story is an american television show with the likes of actresses Jessica Lange and Karthy Burke amongst the cast. Writers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk are talented writes. Also creators of Glee (hold on, I KNOW what you’re thinking), have written an anthology television series, in which they take the concept of infamous, malevolent figures such as Dr. Death (the doctor notorious for performing obscure operations on twins) and add their stories into a larger picture. Continuing loosely upon these lines, and relating to the previously explored female characters, from both non-fictional and fictional history, including infamous historical figures and Greek mythological characters, I have decided to write an autobiographical monologue, written in verse to depict the story behind the legend of the Medusa.
Medusa is an interesting figure within the legends of Greek Mythology. For me, she is a symbolm of power, with the ability to turn humans to stone, through her sight alone.
Reasons for Medusa
– Vast use in modern culture: adverts, cartoons, sci-fi representations and literature
– Strong female characteristics is an attraction – The medusa can turn people to stone, after receiving a curse. This heightens powerful characteristics that begin to define her.
– Throughout writings of Medusa, stories have varied. I would like to create my own take on the character.
– GREEN: There’s something powerful behind the imagery of green skin and the snakes in the hair. Aesthetically, this would be very interesting to explore.
